Sweat or Sun, don’t dampen my workout Fun: Wear the right workout gear.
We don’t want to give up exercise just because it is too hot and humid outside, do we? But why is it that we often hear humidity is a bigger enemy than rising temperatures when it comes to exercising?
We sweat to keep cool, but when the humidity is high, the sweat evaporates more slowly – which means we stay hotter and extremely uncomfortable!
Wearing the right workout gear is important and goes a long way in reducing the discomfort of humidity.
Pick up the Right Fabric: Ask anyone what fabric of clothes to wear during summers, you will get an answer “Cotton”. While cotton is comfortable, it doesn't wick away moisture. On the contrary it absorbs the moisture and sticks to your skin.
Polyester/Synthetic Fibers are designed especially for exercising:
Polyester fabric wicks away the moisture from your skin outwards and keeps the skin as dry as possible.
These fabrics are breathable.
The way that technical clothing is woven it typically creates a strong but light material.
Since they are moisture wicking and breathable, they allow your body’s natural temperature regulation mechanisms to work, particularly in hotter running conditions.
Reduces the chances of rashes of chafing.
Choose polyester (dry fit) tee shirt and shorts over the cotton ones!
Pick up the Right color: Light-colored, sweat-wicking clothing is best for hot weather; dark, heavy clothes can make you even hotter due to the simple principal of darker color absorbing more light.
Don’t take your socks for granted: We often ignore this most important piece of workout gear, the socks. Cotton socks are a big no as they absorb moisture and result in blisters and rashes. Go for the dry fit ones. Keep your feet dry and blister free as you exercise.
Tie up your hair please..! Have you ever seen women working out with their hair down? I’ve never understood how people can do that. Doesn’t it get extra-messy? Isn’t it annoying to have it flapping in your face as you workout? Tie it up in a bun or plate and yes not too tight.
Hair accessories: Sweat Band/Bandana/Cap/Visor: These all prevent sweat from dripping down your face, protect your hair and provide a guard against the sun. The accessories especially designed for workout wick away the sweat and what’s more, these dry quickly.
Don’t forget UV blocking goggles..!
Beat the heat and enjoy your workouts..!
